All you need to join this exclusive club, is to do at least one cartwheel per year and send my the photographic evidence. Easy hey? Actually its a bit like riding a bike, the muscle memory is often still there even if you haven't tried for years.
As the founder member of this club, I've now been at it for over 6 years. it all started before I reached 50. I was approaching it fast, kind of too fast but simultaneously couldn't wait to finally get over that hump of an age. Anyway I, like many of us debated long and hard how to celebrate this new era. I settled on doing a back-walk-over as a goal. Long story short, the back-walk-over hasn't happened yet. My back may never quite get back to that strength and flexibility but I haven't given up yet. During the year of trying I did however remind my body that it could still do cartwheels. And so began, a personal tradition to do a cartwheel a year. Some years, it gets close to not happening, and as each year goes by I'm intrigued to find out how it goes. This year it was easy, maybe helped by a consistent strength routine. Cartwheeling isn't something I do often, but it's a nice annual test. I feel it's time to widen the club membership and celebrate more of us growing older disgracefully.
Please send me your submissions either in the comments below or through any of the usual contact methods.
For those of you with a Strava membership you can join the not very exclusive club even if your attempts aren't all that professional.
Thanks Howard, your cartwheels have potential. Not bad for an almost 60yr old
A great goal to aim for, practice will make better!
